Paul the Apostle compared our lives as clay vessels that contain great treasure from the Lord. the treasure hidden in jar vessels.
Jeremiah 18:1-4 (ESV)The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD: “Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will let you hear my words.” So I went down to the potter’s house, and there he was working at his wheel. And the vessel he was making of clay was spoiled in the potter’s hand, and he reworked it into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to do.
The Lord Jesus Christ used to teach parables but He used them to teach their disciples, because those lessons were mysteries from the Kingdom, in the previous verses we read how the Lord showed Jeremiah who and every element described in these verses. The Potter is the Lord and how He makes us and rebuilds us many times. There is something amazing in these verses because we see the mercy of the Lord, because even the jar was spoiled He reworked it and makes it again.
We will see closely the words SPOILED- this word means Shajat H7843, damage, corrupted, destroyed, got crazy. If we look in the Bible the word Shajat, in order to see what spoiled the jar, also to see the people from Israel as figure of us.
Proverbs 6:32 (KJV) But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyethhis own soul.
This word destroy means SHAJAT; therefore we see that adultery will destroy; now a spiritual adultery destroys us.
Eze 28:17 (KJV) Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corruptedthy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.
Beauty is vane and corrupts; because beauty fills out of pride, and the consequence will be to be spoiled. But the remedy is to give the Glory to only one to the Lord, not to us and when we feel we do everything with our own strength we will be spoiled.
2Cr 26:15 (ESV) In Jerusalem he made engines, invented by skillful men, to be on the towers and the corners, to shoot arrows and great stones. And his fame spread far, for he was marvelously helped, till he was strong.
Uziah enter the temple and burn incense to the gods because he thought he was powerful and when he was disciplined his heart was full of anger he didn’t recognize his mistake and leprosy came to his life. When fame comes to our life the best thing is to give the Glory to the Lord so we do not give space to pride.
Exodus 32:7 (ESV) And the LORD said to Moses, “Go down, for your people, whom you brought up out of the land of Egypt, have corruptedthemselves
Here we read a figure, of the Lord as Moses who went up the mountain and the people figure of us, who were not patient enough to wait for Him but instead focused on the material goods such as the golden calf instead or waiting for our spiritual prosperity.
We as people of God do not want a golden gospel, but a bloody gospel, because of the blood shed for our sins at the Calvary’s Cross, and let ourselves humbly present to the Potter to work in our live and make us again to His resemblance and image. Amen.
