The Covenant Of Love III

Apostle Sergio Enríquez.

The Lord has shown His mercy, mercy that is both great and indescribable. The bible says in Psalms 63:3(NKJV) Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, My lips shall praise You. When I try to understand the mercy of the Lord I ask myself: What exactly mercy is? –Sometimes is hard to accept when God shows His mercy to certain people we consider are unworthy of it. This happened to Jonah when God forgave the city of Nineveh; Jonah 4:2 says: So he prayed to the Lord, and said, Ah, Lord, was not this what I said when I was still in my country? Therefore I fled previously to Tarshish; for I know that You are a gracious and merciful God, slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness, One who relents from doing harm. Therefore, this verse is a clear example of how God shows compassion to sinners, while Jonah and many Christians want destruction for them.

Matthew 26:28For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for manyfor the remission of sins.

The blood of Jesus is available for all sinners. The word of God says that Jesus came to serve and to give His life as a ransom for many (Matthew 20:28). In other words brethren, the Lord is saying: I am interested in the many, not only in few.

Now, God doesn’t need to hear that we love Him; He knows all things, and He recognizes the condition of our heart. But if we consider the passage where Jesus asked Peter about his love for Him, we understand that Jesus wanted Peter to know his own heart. Therefore, I can say that this kind of questions demonstrate God’s mercy for us.

Daniel 12:10Many shall be purified, made white, and refined, but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand.

According to this passage, in the latter times, many believers will be purified, i.e., those who were cleansed with the blood of Jesus. But notice that these Christians are not mere believers, they teach the bible and comprehend eschatological themes. But even having these virtues, many of them will fall so their sins can be revealed. The good news is that God will purify those sins because He is merciful, and He fulfills His promises upon His people. The next passage shows the time in which these things will happen; Daniel 12:9And he said, “Go your way, Daniel, for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.”Recently, I shared the passage in which King David was confronted by Nathan the prophet. II Samuel 12:1-15narrates how David’s sin was revealed through a parable. Then I said that David wrote Psalm 51as a prayer of repentance.

Psalms 51:1-4Have mercy upon me, O God, According to Your lovingkindness; According to the multitude of Your tender mercies, Blot out my transgressions. [2] Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin. [3] For I acknowledge my transgressions, And my sin is always before me. [4] Against You, You only, have I sinned, And done this evil in Your sight -That You may be found just when You speak, and blameless when You judge.

Brethren, if you have sinned against the Lord, there is an opportunity to be restored and purified. There is a passage in the Bible which says: If you purify yourselves today, you will see wonders tomorrow. Isaiah 1:18adds: “Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the Lord, “Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool.”

According to the bible, a Christian can be purified in different ways i.e., through fire or water. In the Old Testament we find an explanation to this: Numbers 31:23says: everything that can endure fire, you shall put through the fire, and it shall be clean; and it shall be purified with the water of purification. But all that cannot endure fire you shall put through water. Nowadays we know this fire does not refer to a literal flame; this fire can be a trial, a suffering or even a word that comes from God. Today we have the opportunity to recognize our sins and ask forgiveness to Him who is able to show mercy.

Leviticus 21:9The daughter of any priest, if she profanes herself by playing the harlot, she profanes her father. She shall be burned with fire.

For a long period of time, I was struggling to find the application of this verse to our days. But recently, I realized that the church of Christ can be considered as the daughter of the priest, that is, Jesus Christ, the High Priest before God. Therefore, I can say that when the church decides to play the harlot, that is, to sell her principles, she will be burned with fire.

In conclusion, God is bringing the opportunity to purify ourselves, He is bringing forgiveness to those who recognize their need; today, we all can be cleansed with the blood of Jesus. Keep in mind the word written in Revelation 3:4which says: You have a few names in Sardis who have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with Me in white, for they are worthy.
