The beatitudes

Apostle Sergio Enriquez.

Tonight I want to talk about the beatitudes; there are almost one hundred of them in the Bible. Both in Hebrew and Greek, the word bliss is translated as glad. In fact, when the Lord began His ministry, He proclaimed the beatitudes even before His commandments. But this time, I want to call your attention to a passage that is found in Acts 20:35 (NKJV) when Paul says: I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ Now, if you use all your computer programs and skills, you will not be able to find these exact words in the Bible. Paul is saying that it is bliss to receive, but to give is even greater, and these two actions act as a virtuous cycle. Today I want to talk about receiving, mainly because our enemy tries to block our reception ability, and as a consequence we will not be able to give.

I Chronicles 29:14 (NKJV) But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly as this? For all things come from You, and of Your own we have given You.

From the passage above, we understand that if someone does not receive, he is not able to give. And if you are not able to give, then you will not reach the greatest blessing God has planned for you. As ministers of the Lord, we desire many blessings for the people, but most of the times they don’t receive because they are blocked or damaged.

II Thessalonians 2:10 (TKI*SVT) He will let him deceive, with all unrighteous deception among those who walk to destruction, because they did not want to receive the love of the truth that could have saved them.

Everytime the devil wants to do something against you, he must ask permission to God. The good news is that every devil’s plan must have an emergency exit. For this reason, I say that your problem has a solution, the Bible says so. God is always good because when He decides to close a door, He opens a new one. God closes and opens, He opens and closes. Therefore, when an opportunity ends, He will prosper you with a new one.

As the second letter to the Thessalonians says; there are people who do not want to receive the blessing, nor the love for the truth, therefore they will be deceived. But today I want to bless you in the name of Jesus; those of you who are sick or tormented by demons, I will bless you and you will be free.

James 4:3 (NKJV) You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.

From this verse we can explain the truth about why some people cannot receive the greatest blessing, that is, to give. Now, the blessing of receiving has its own enemies; in this passage we see that the enemy is selfishness. One example of a selfish man is described in Luke 16:24 (NKJV) Then he (the rich man) cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. I say that this man was selfish because even in Hades, he was asking Abraham to send Lazarus to him, in other words, he was not willing to do anything by himself, he kept asking for things to satisfy his needs.

Other enemies of receiving

I Samuel 1:7 (NKJV) So it was, year by year, when she went up to the house of the Lord, that she provoked her; therefore she wept and did not eat.

Hannah is a classic example of a person who suffers from bitterness; bitterness disables a person to receive the blessing of the Lord. And we know that if someone does not receive, he is not able to give. Therefore brethren, you cannot be bitter, even if you have all the reasons in the world to be like that.

Luke 10:38-39 (NKJV) Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house.

Many believers welcome Jesus into their lives, but they live like Martha, i.e. distracted with much serving, worried and troubled about many things. Nowadays, some Christians serve in many areas within the church, but they don´t take time to sit and listen to the word of God. As a consequence, they don’t receive the full blessing of the Lord, they receive it partially. But today, I pray that all impediment is taken away from you in the name of Jesus!
