God gave me the privilege to share a blessing with you today; therefore, I want to continue describing one of God’s Instruments of Honor, instruments whom the Lord prepared for these times. More than ever, we need the pure teaching of the word of God given through teachers who fear the Lord. These are anointed servants who are zealous for the word of God and the sound doctrine. The next verse gives a list of names that give us the characteristics of a true teacher of the word.
Nehemiah 8:7-8Also Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodijah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, helped the people to understand the Law; and the people stood in their place. So they read distinctly from the book, in the Law of God; and they gave the sense, and helped them to understand the reading.
Brethren, it is necessary to sit and stay in one place where the word of God is exposed; every Christian needs to understand the doctrine of the Lord in order to achieve the full blessing. But if someone wanders from church to church, he will not be able to live according to God’s will, he will only get a lot of messy teachings that could lead him astray. As a disciple of the Lord, you bear His teaching; in fact, you have a great gift within you, because you understand and share the word of God through the power of the Holy Spirit.
But now let me explain what does Maaseiah mean, and how God works in our lives. Maaseiah:“work of the Lord, produce, and Jehova’s property.” This implies that we belong to the Lord; as the bible says that we are the work of His hands. Perhaps He has been working in your life in the secret place, but you know that He will manifest His work at due time. According to the context, Maaseiah was a bearer of God’s teaching, and a bearer is a vessel that God uses, he was not the owner of God’s revelation. From other point of view, God gives His revelation to those He considers worthy to teach His word; this is not something that comes from human initiative.
Matthew 28:19-20Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching themto observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen.
Beloved, this is a commandment of the Lord that I want to highlight in your mind today. God’s will is to make His people evolve from believers to disciples. The Lord’s disciples are instruments of honor that obey and bear His word wherever they go. In this opportunity I want to describe the arrow as an instrument of honor, considering that these are the servants who bear the teaching.
Psalms 127:4-5Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth. Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; They shall not be ashamed, But shall speak with their enemies in the gate.
Brethren, you are an arrow in God’s hands, therefore you must meet some characteristics in order to function as one. I drew a simple sketch to explain the three basic parts of an arrow as follows:
1) Arrow head: Usually it is made out of polished rock or hard materials that can be sharpened.
2) The shaft: This part is made out of wood which should be dry and straight. Spiritually talking,
this means that a Christian who is designed to be an arrow, should not adapt to the form of the environment, but instead, he should walk blamelessly before the Lord following His example.
The shaft should be as long as the distance between the chin and the palm of an stretched arm. This fact shows that a righteous man should talk as he acts,, that is, his words must be aligned to his deeds.
3) The fletching: This part of the arrow is important because it imparts direction to it. In ancient times, the fletching was made out of bird feathers. But the feathers in the Bible talk about the wings, and we know that God’s wings are our spiritual coverage. In other words, if we accept the spiritual coverage given through a minister, we will be guided and nourished. On the contrary, if someone rejects this principle, he can easily become an errant arrow.
As we can see, the arrow works as a unity, but first it must be tested to verify if flies straight. This implies for us, that certain processes of God will prepare us to be sent to different places. But we must keep in mind that the Lord has a specific time for each Christian; perhaps someone will be sent to his mission tomorrow, or maybe it will many years, but the important thing is to wait patiently in the Lord while He works.
This process takes different steps; the first step is when He cuts the wood to work on the staff. Therefore I can say that this is when the Lord takes us out of our worldly environment. For example, as soon as we come to Christ, He took away our worldly friends, i.e. those who delighted in their sinful life. But then the Lord works in the details of our life, and this is when He fashions the characteristics that will serve specifically for the calling He planned for each. Finally, the Lord sharpens the arrow head; and this process usually happens within the church, that is, when we have some differences with our brethren. Proverbs 27:17says: As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.
Rut 1:20But she said to them, “Do not call me Naomi; call me Mara, for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me.”
The problems you might be facing are not to cause you bitterness or death, the Lord wants to form you as His instrument. Always keep in mind that God is merciful and He loves you; perhaps you don’t understand the whole process right now but He has listened to your prayers and petitions. God will finish the work He began in you, He will not forget you.
Luke 12:42-43And the Lord said, “Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his master will make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of food in due season? Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes.”
The time will come in which the Lord will manifest His work in your life. If you think your process is too long to wait, consider that God can change your entire life in a moment; He is the God Almighty. Brethren, if you want to be successful in your spiritual life, you must grow from being a believer to be a disciple of Christ; we need to be humble and accept to live by the teachings of the Lord, not only listening to them but embracing His words wholeheartedly.
