The purpose of the Lord in our family life is that we be happy; we have to be restored and move from level to level. We see the Apostle Peter and the process he lived and how the Lord shaped his violent personality just until the Holy Spirit came to him he changes his way and he was transformed up to the point he advised us and our family dynamics:
1Peter 3:8-9 (ESV)Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind. Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing.
This was written inspired by the Holy Spirit, because our nature is to return as we received, but here we learn to bless and inherit blessing. There is a series of treasures hidden in our family and it is our job to find them. We read the story of a mother that sought for the blessing of her son.
Genesis 27:10 (ESV)And you shall bring it to your father to eat, so that he may bless you before he dies.”
She advised her son so he got a blessing from his father. We read the story in Genesis 27:6-9, how she prepared a dish and Jacob followed her advice. And finally he got the blessing fooling his father Genesis 27:26-27.
Genesis 27:28-29 (ESV)May God give you of the dew of heaven and of the fatness of the earth and plenty of grain and wine. Let peoples serve you, and nations bow down to you. Be lord over your brothers, and may your mother’s sons bow down to you. Cursed be everyone who curses you, and blessed be everyone who blesses you!”
Jacob’s father blessed him 8 times, we see how important a blessing from a father is.
Genesis 24:24-28 (ESV)She said to him, “I am the daughter of Bethuel the son of Milcah, whom she bore to Nahor.” She added, “We have plenty of both straw and fodder, and room to spend the night.” The man bowed his head and worshiped the Lord and said, “Blessed be the Lord, the God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken his steadfast love and his faithfulness toward my master. As for me, the Lord has led me in the way to the house of my master’s kinsmen.” Then the young woman ran and told her mother’s household about these things.
Here we see how Rebekah behaved and why she knew about the importance of the blessing from a father.
Genesis 24:59-60 (ESV)So they sent away Rebekah their sister and her nurse, and Abraham’s servant and his men. 60 And they blessed Rebekah and said to her, “Our sister, may you become thousands of ten thousands, and may your offspring possess the gate of those who hate him!”
We read that Rebekah left with the blessings of her family. How we bless our brothers or sisters at home: saying something as they did. We as sons and daughters are able to bless others at church.
Judges 1:12-15 (ESV)And Caleb said, “He who attacks Kiriath-sepher and captures it, I will give him Achsah my daughter for a wife.” And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother, captured it. And he gave him Achsah his daughter for a wife. When she came to him, she urged him to ask her father for a field. And she dismounted from her donkey, and Caleb said to her, “What do you want?” She said to him, “Give me a blessing. Since you have set me in the land of the Negeb, give me also springs of water.” And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.
In this case the winner was a conqueror and show his love. Othniel asked for a blessing and this word could be translated as prosperity.
1Samuel 1:9-11 (ESV)After they had eaten and drunk in Shiloh, Hannah rose. Now Eli the priest was sitting on the seat beside the doorpost of the temple of the Lord. She was deeply distressed and prayed to the Lord and wept bitterly. And she vowed a vow and said, “O Lord of hosts, if you will indeed look on the affliction of your servant and remember me and not forget your servant, but will give to your servant a son, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall touch his head.”
Anna poured her heart and the Lord gave her the son she wanted. And the blessings from a minister.
1Samuel 2:19-21 (ESV)And his mother used to make for him a little robe and take it to him each year when she went up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice. Then Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife, and say, “May the Lord give you children by this woman for the petition she asked of the Lord.” So then they would return to their home. Indeed the Lord visited Hannah, and she conceived and bore three sons and two daughters. And the boy Samuel grew in the presence of the Lord.
What it is amazing is that we are agents to bless others especially the members of our family and also to be humble to ask for a blessing, maybe we need the blessing from a distant father, or an in-law but we must take the blessing over our family. Amen!
Numbers 6:22-27 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, Thus you shall bless the people of Israel: you shall say to them,
The Lord bless you and keep you;
the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;
the Lord lift up his countenance[a] upon you and give you peace.
“So shall they put my name upon the people of Israel, and I will bless them.”
